Aurora, IL (population 197,757). Exciting opportunity to have a leadership role in the economic revitalization well underway in the City of Aurora. With over 5,000 new jobs created post-pandemic and more than $100M in new development investment underway, Aurora is positioned to reach new and exciting heights in the coming decade. Aurora is a river community and the second largest city in Illinois, located 40 miles west of Chicago. The City has long been a transportation hub with easy access to Interstate 88 (five interchanges), as well as two Metra stations (commuter line), a regional airport, four institutions of higher education, 14 business parks and a 130 mile plus fiber network.
In addition to its rich history as a manufacturing center with strong industrial roots, Aurora has become a commercial and entertainment destination. The City is home to the Hollywood Casino (slated for relocation and redevelopment); the Fox Valley Mall with newly expanded residential offerings; Chicago Premium Outlets welcoming over 8M visitors annually; and the award-winning Paramount Theater, which offers more than 150 entertainment options annually and plays a critical role in the burgeoning renaissance of the downtown.
Invest Aurora is a 501(c)(3) public/private economic development partnership dedicated to expanding economic opportunities in Aurora and developing a sustainable community for Aurora residents and businesses. The President/CEO reports to a Board of Directors and can expect to work on the following:
Collaborating with the City of Aurora and the business community to market Aurora nationally and internationally, ensuring that the development community is aware of Aurora’s assets and availability for development and redevelopment.
Leading a staff of three professionals dedicated to business attraction, business retention, and data research, bolstering the City’s efforts in economic development and job growth.
Working closely with the City of Aurora in negotiating real estate and development deals in cooperation with elected and appointed bodies, as well as with state and federal agencies as needed.
Managing a portfolio of financial tools including two revolving loan programs and State Grant opportunities as they become available.
Maintaining relationships with federal, State, County and Local officials to ensure that Aurora maintains its standing as the second largest city in Illinois.
Candidates for this unique opportunity must be highly collaborative and creative with well- developed communication skills, media skills, a can-do attitude, and a record of team-oriented leadership. Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree along with significant economic development experience in marketing, economic data analysis and negotiations. Starting salary range: $140,000 ̶ $160,000 DOQ with a competitive benefits package.
