Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) welcomes adjunct instructors who are able to teach in the Fitness Education Center and illustrate a commitment to fostering a learning environment where resources are devoted to developing opportunities for students to break barriers and thrive as scholars and community members.
  • The teaching assignment may require teaching lecture-discussion courses during day, evening, or on Saturday and/or in an on-line/distance education format.
  • The assignments are based on departmental need on a quarter-by-quarter basis.
  • Applicant will secure and maintain home internet access during the duration of their employment to ensure regular and consistent contact with students.

Description

This position is in the Fitness Education Center and is responsible for assisting students with access and utilization of the exercise equipment in the center, giving new student orientations, and signing off on student exercise programs.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Under the direction of the Dean of Instruction, teach assigned courses in the Physical Education discipline’s curriculum.
  • Teach fitness and health courses in a lab setting and gym facility—shifts may include day, night, or weekend shifts.
  • Create and promote an effective learning environment to enhance student engagement and safety.
  • Assist students of all ages and abilities in program design and development based on student’s goals and capabilities.
  • Demonstrate the use of gym equipment and proper form for weight and/or cardiovascular training.
  • Develop syllabuses and Canvas shells as required per institutional guidelines. 
  • Meet with and advise students on their initial visit to the Fitness Education Center and throughout each quarter.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and expertise in the field of fitness and health education.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as necessary.
  • Carry out other reasonable, related duties as assigned or needed.

Minimum Qualification

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Requirements: All faculty must meet state-adopted minimum qualifications or the locally established equivalencies.

Physical Education
  • Master’s in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education
  • OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy
  • OR the equivalent

AND
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
