Job Description

Position Title: Dean of Instruction - close October 25, 2024 at 5:00pm

Department: Academic Affairs

Reports Directly to: Vice President of Academic Affairs

Status: Exempt; Full-time

Salary: $65,000 -Annual

Summary of Duties:

• Coordinate with the directors, department chairs and faculty to develop and support processes that promote academic innovation and improved service to all students, campus-based, online and dual credit.
• Analyze and evaluate instructional areas and foster a culture of continuous improvement to ensure curriculum and instructional integrity.
• Work with department chairs and faculty to support culturally responsive instructional strategies and indigenized pedagogy with a focus on American Indian and Alaskan Native content.
• Onboarding of new staff, orientation of academic affairs policies, compliance forms, paperwork, mentorship and support, and follow-ups.
• Collaborate with department chairs to ensure faculty work schedules comply with policy.
• Mentor faculty in effective academic advising strategies, including ensuring the implementation of the Thunder Alert System.
• Serve as ex-officio member of the Curriculum Committee and Assessment of Student Learning Committee.
• Serve on the Retention Management Team to monitor the Early Alert System, provide feedback to faculty and advisors, and revise and provide guidance as an administrator in the retention module.
• Ensure assessment of student learning activities are completed by faculty in a timely manner and according to the recommendations of the Assessment of Student Learning Committee.
• Collaborate with the Vice President of Academic Affairs on staff professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
• Employ appropriate techniques and strategies to resolve disputes and to enhance communication and cooperation among the personnel in the assigned departments.
• Evaluate the performance of assigned department chairs, faculty, adjuncts and other personnel in conformance with appropriate policies and procedures.
• Collaborate on preparation of fall, spring and summer course schedules and faculty assignments for all areas.
• Maintain membership on the Institutional Effectiveness Committee.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

• General office conditions
• Normal working hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
• One-hour lunch break
• Position requires occasional travel that includes weekends.

Physical Demands: 

• Move about inside an office and classroom.
• Operate a computer and other office/classroom equipment.
• Occasionally move, transport, or position up to 20 pounds.
• May need to ascend/descend stairs.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum of a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, educational psychology, or secondary education from an accredited institution required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in administration at a tribal school or college/university required.

Knowledge & Skills:

• Distance learning methodologies and management.
• Teaching and learning strategies.
• Adult learning methodologies as well as evaluation of instructional quality and outcomes.
• Effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
• Handle sensitive and complex employee/employer issues consistently and professionally.
• Coordinate and facilitate meetings.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
