Job Description

DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, perform data collection, record keeping, and assist with laboratory experiments related to human studies research in transplantation. Duties will include collection of data from medical records for IRB-approved studies, management of study volunteer records, and wet laboratory procedures including processing and cryopreservation of clinical tissue samples, performing molecular biology studies including RNA/DNA isolation and PCR-based techniques, and flow cytometry. Particular focus is needed to maintain and prepare accurate records of all experiments and assist in the preparation of data for publication.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Theoretical knowledge of molecular biology and immunology

  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) needed to interact professionally and effectively in the work environment, as well as to effectively and accurately document research procedures. Ability to read, comprehend and discuss research materials

  • Organizational skills to order and maintain lab equipment and supplies.

  • Basic understanding of computer applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Internet search and software analysis capabilities are preferred.

  • Ability to use histological and immunohistochemical techniques to evaluate protein localization in fixed cells or tissues.

  • Ability to perform light, fluorescence and confocal microscopy techniques to visualize protein expression in tissue sections.

  • Ability to perform sterile eukaryotic cell culture techniques.

  • Ability to perform PCR and agarose gel electrophoresis.

  • Detail-oriented. Ability to work with little supervision. Ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions. Ability to follow-up on previously begun procedures. Ability to accurately record data and enter into appropriate medium.

  • Enthusiasm for learning and a genuine interest in scientific research. Willingness and ability to learn new skills, research methods, and scientific principles.

  • Familiarity with basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, spectrophotometers, balances, pH meters, autoclaves and electrophoresis equipment.

  • Ability to adhere to established UCSD guidelines for safety and environmental issues.

  • Familiarity with computer software such as Excel to analyze data, store results and compute raw data.

  • Familiar in proper handling of chemical and biohazard materials. Familiarity with sterile techniques.

  • Must be willing and able to work with human blood and tissue samples

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $55,374 - $66,064 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $26.52 - $31.64

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
