Job Description
DEVELOPMENT OFFICER 2, Office of the Provost, creates and implements strategic fundraising plans for the MIT Venture Mentoring Service to raise philanthropic support for the annual fund and endowment. Typical gifts garnered by this job are in the $1-50K range. In collaboration with the Director and Assistant Director, develops and implements a strategic development plan to raise gifts and/or other revenue for current operations and for the endowment; works with MIT Venture Mentoring System (VMS) and Institute colleagues to create, develop, and execute donor relations and stewardship strategies and to identify prospects and arrange meetings with VMS leadership for cultivation and solicitation. VMS has earned worldwide recognition for its leadership and excellence in mentoring entrepreneurs. Since its creation in 2000, VMS has helped over 4,500 entrepreneurs by providing them with teams of mentors, access to experts in a wide range of fields via Office Hours, a range of seminars, and more. VMS currently uses 200 volunteer mentors to support 300 active ventures. VMS has an Outreach Program that has taught over 130 organizations worldwide how to set up similar programs. VMS is also the origin of MIT I-Corps, which is funded by the National Science Foundation and has trained about 2000 researchers from across New England in entrepreneurship since its inception in 2019. VMS is self-funded through a combination of sources: annual support, program revenue and income from its endowment fund.

Job Requirements:REQUIRED: Minimum of three years of direct fund-raising experience and bachelor's degree. PREFERRED: Knowledge of MIT and other entrepreneurship & innovation organizations or experience in a higher education organization. Job #24748-10
