Horticulture Program Outreach Assistant - Part Time

Class Description

The purpose of this class is to manage professional-level responsibilities in recruiting students for horticulture courses, including outreach to the community and horticulture interest groups and, when applicable, facilitating student cooperative placement with employers in horticultural work training programs. This ensures strong, effective connections between students and the industry.

Minimum Requirements

Associate’s degree in Horticulture or related program, Bachelor’s preferred.  Five (5) years’ experience in horticulture to include landscaping, design and plant production.  Of the five years, three years must be in a supervisory/management role. A minimum of one year experience working in an academic partnership within the horticulture industry. Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing with violation points less than five (5) and active Professional Horticulturist Certification.

Class Specific Essential Duties

  1. Identify placement locations for student employment for internships, co-op work experience or other workplace learning.
  2. Plan and execute the twice-yearly job fair.
  3. Act as the liaison between CCBC and the Landscape industry, especially the businesses associated with the American Landscape Institute, the

Maryland Nursery Landscape Association, American Nurseryman's Association and Perennial Plant Association.

4. Provide administrative support for collaborative activities between CCBC and Horticultural Industries.

                           5. Represent the college at networking events, affinity groups, and business and industry associations.
                           6. Maintain department records and files, as required.
                           7. Facilitate and attend meetings, as required.
                           8. Make cold calls to affinity groups, and business and industry associations for the purpose of recruiting students.
                           9. Prepare, analyze and provide reports on miscellaneous subjects, as requested.
                           10. Provide support to department administrative duties of the horticultural program.
