Position Title: Part Time Director of Library
Department/Unit: Academic and Student Affairs
Classification: Administrator III
Status (exempt or non-exempt): Exempt
Salary/Grade: 33,290 Per Year based on 50% appointment.
Reports To: Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs
Percentage: 50%
Annual/Academic year: Annual (12 months); This appointment is a 3-year appointment.

Position Summary
Develops, administers, promotes, and provides college library supports to faculty, students, and public patrons. Performs and supervises reference, collection development, acquisitions, inter-library loans, cataloging, and acquisitions of equipment and materials. Supports instruction and student development through workshops about research skills and information literacy. With the VP of Academic and Student Affairs, it provides coordinated administration of library’s budget and supervision of library staff.
MANAGEMENT OF LIBRARY COLLECTION
- Coordinates and performs acquisitions, cataloging, maintenance, and circulation of library materials collection.
- Manages and provides interlibrary loan services to library patrons.
- Reviews professional resources and determines the materials needed for addition to collection.
- Provides collection development that is guided by data that includes feedback from faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Provide resources with an appropriate level of currency, depth, and breadth to support the academic programs of the college.
PROMOTION OF LIBRARY SERVICES
- Develops and presents workshops on topics related to research strategies, information literacy, and critical thinking.
- Provides regular reference services to students in support of programs, wherever offered and however delivered.
- Creates learning aids using various technologies in support of faculty teaching and student learning.
- Attends and participates in ad-hoc committees and supervisors’ meetings and professional library organizations and library resource sharing groups.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT (STAFF AND BUDGET)
- Regularly reviews the status of staff’s assignments, including workflow, scheduling, prioritization of work tasks.
- Monitors library budget. Follows OCCC procedures to complete purchases.
- Collaborates with the VP for Academic and Student Affairs in the development of the annual budget.
- Recommends resource needs to the VP for Academic and Student Affairs.
GENERAL LIBRARY ADMINISTRATION
- Establishes, monitors, evaluates, interprets, and revises library access and operational policies as needed.
- Plans and implements updates to library information services.
- Reviews and recommends policies, procedures, strategies and opportunities for enhancements to library services, equipment, and facilities to the Vice President.
- Annually conducts Service and Program Area Review for Library.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in library and information studies (MLS or MLIS) from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience working at a library, performing varied and progressive responsibilities.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience as a librarian in an academic library.
- Experience supervising library staff, including hiring, training, evaluating, and disciplining.
- Demonstrated ability to provide reference and instructional services to faculty, students, staff, and the public.
- Experience delivering instruction and programs about digital and information literacy.
- Experience with managing library databases.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to plan and provide guidance on the various types of reference and research techniques directly related to meeting students’ learning needs.
- Ability to develop a viable and diverse library collection.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of computer software and integrated systems used for maintaining and tracking records and information related to library.
- Demonstrated willingness to cultivate skills and embrace changes and developments in technology.
- Strong writing skills to develop policies and procedures and compose various types of correspondence.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities with numerous deadlines and competing demands.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact with individuals in a professional manner and to develop and maintain positive working relationships with students, co-workers, and professionals within the community.
- Ability to provide a learning and work environment that is sensitive to and respectful of individuals from varying cultural orientations, educational backgrounds, socio economic situations, and with varying lifestyles, learning styles, and learning needs.
- Ability to work effectively with members from a variety of library service systems.
- Public speaking skills to address various types of audiences.
- Ability to work a varied schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and talk and hear.
The employee is required to walk, stand, reach and bend; use hands to finger, handle, or operate computers, objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Frequent use of various types of technology and equipment. Required to be able to lift and carry materials up to 30 pounds of weight.

Assignment may include travel to all OCCC locations and may include evening and weekend work.
Occasional travel and overnight stays outside of Lincoln County may be required for training and other purposes.
